✕The main town has a pleasant harbour but it is generic compared to the island's interior. The real Thassos is in the marble villages of the mountains and the hidden beaches of the south coast.
✕Thassos's west coast (Golden Beach, Paradise) gets the afternoon sun and the crowds. The east coast beaches (Aliki, Rosogremos) are quieter, have better water clarity, and are backed by olive groves.
✕Thassos has been a marble quarry since antiquity. The villages of Sotiras, Kastro, and Theologos have marble-paved paths, marble fountains, and a character unlike anywhere else in the Aegean.
✕The drive from Limenas to the top of Mount Ypsarion (1,204m) through forests of chestnut and pine is spectacular and reveals an island that most beach tourists never see.
✕Thassos Town's museum is small but excellent, with treasures from the island's 3,000-year history. Take thirty minutes to see it properly.
💡 What nobody tells you: Thassos has the best natural hot springs in the North Aegean — the thermal baths at Therma village are free, open year-round, and range from 35°C to 45°C. Locals have bathed here for centuries and you can too, sitting in stone basins under plane trees.
